Learn how to extend the garden season & provide food for your dinner table all year long! In our region it is possible to keep your garden active and bountiful through the late fall and even over the winter with a little determination and some helpful strategies. Topics will include planting successions, seeding schedules & seasonal variability, frost/cold protection, storage, plant varieties & pest management. Participants will leave with the skills to plant out fall & winter successions in the garden this year, and ideas for a garden building projects in the future.
Sarah Simon has been farming for the past four years at Common Ground Farm in Beacon, NY, where she is the Farm Director. Before moving to the Hudson Valley, she apprenticed on a farm in Maine that used creative season extension strategies to mitigate the very short growing season. Geeking out about soil science and creative small scale growing strategies is her favorite part of farming!
